Overview

The Audit tab under an asset gives you a complete, chronological record of activity on an asset — who did what, and when. It captures create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) operations, as well as system-level events like linking assets to domains, running metric jobs, and permission changes. You can access the Audit tab from any asset, semantic model, or metric page, alongside Overview, Attribute, Metric, Usage, Lineage, Documentation, Conversation, and Catalog.

Asset Audit

The Audit Log panel lists every recorded event for the asset, most recent first. The header shows the total event count, e.g. Audit Log (308).

Table columns

Each row in the log captures both the “what” and the “who” behind an action: Behind each entry, the system also tracks additional metadata used for filtering, search, and export: Asset Name, Attribute, Metric Name, Source ID, Asset ID, User ID, and User Email.

Action types

For update events, the message includes a before/after snapshot of the change where applicable — for example, a description update shows both the old and new text.

Filters and controls

Use the ALL filter above the table to scope results, and the icons in the top-right of the panel to:
  • Filter — narrow entries by user, date range, resource type, or action type
  • Sort — reorder the log by date or other columns
  • Search — find specific entries by keyword
  • Export — download the audit log (CSV) via the overflow menu
Use the date range and action type filters together to quickly answer questions like “who updated this asset’s description last week?”

Data retention

Audit log entries are retained according to your organization’s configured retention period:
  • Default minimum: 90 days
  • Compliance mode: up to 7 years, based on the storage setting configured in your organization profile
Audit logs are stored immutably — entries cannot be edited or deleted, ensuring the log remains a reliable record for compliance and investigation purposes.

Audit vs. Activity logs

The Audit tab on an asset focuses on changes and interactions with that specific asset (CRUD operations, links, job triggers, views). A separate, organization-wide Activity Log (under Security) tracks access and session-level activity across the platform, including:
  • Login attempts, logouts, and failed authentication
  • Session timeouts
  • Permission checks and access denials
  • Queries executed against semantic layers and metrics, with parameters
Each session appears as a single line in the Activity Log, with the underlying audit events available as drill-down detail. Like the asset-level Audit Log, the Activity Log is filterable, sortable, and exportable.
If you need to investigate who accessed a resource and from where (e.g. IP address, session), check the organization’s Activity Log under Security. If you need to know what changed on a specific asset, use that asset’s Audit tab.
